SATURDAY: You’re Not Allowed to Complain — It’s Saratoga

“You’re Not Allowed to Complain — It’s Saratoga.” That was the mantra of a friend’s father. . .and I had to think about those words a lot yesterday. The WiFi was wonky all day, making any kind of work or study impossible. The gambling tree has been cut down in favor of some pointless gazebos (who gets to tell Hegarty?). The place in general was a bit of a crowded mess.

But none of that mattered because the meet is underway. All in all, it was a pleasing day. I spent it mostly at The Paddock Bar (I’m as shocked as you). I pretty much kept my money in my pocket (remember, no Wifi). This came in handy as it meant I was only able to lose the money I had on me.

Susan and my buddy Todd arrrived at The Little House near the East Side Rec last night about 9:30. We sat around, caught up, and ate some Farro salad with Rainbow Chard, Scallions and Toasted Pepitas. (Hey, I needed something healthy to counterbalance the Shack burger I scarfed down between the features).

As I look outside, the town is shrouded in a foggy haze, but the weather projects to be nice for today. I think I need to wrap up this post and head over to the farmer’s market to pick up some goodies to grill tonight. . .

BANKROLL PLAY

Race 6: $50 win and place on #1 REFLECTING.

This is a tough race, with many logical contenders, but I’m hoping that means we get a nice price on this one. I liked the way he moved in his first turf start, and while he didn’t have trouble exactly, the race flow didn’t exactly work in his favor and I think he could show more today at a number once again. Feel free to get jiggy in exactas with #5 LEA (big number, wide trip last time), #4 KRIS ROYAL (sweet turf pedigree), and #3 SIR SIDNEY (who deserves another chance after being bet to odds on at KEE).

MEET TO DATE RESULTS: -$100

We were unlucky yesterday with the horror trip on SALTO, who I thought was stopped in his tracks while making the pro tem winning move. I try not to apologize for picks in the blog but as I told a friend yesterday, “I’ll make some bad picks in the blog this summer; that wasn’t one of them.”
